Personal Development at Kiveton Park Meadows Junior School
At Kiveton Park Meadows Junior School, our ethos – Learning Means the World – guides everything we do. We aim to develop empowered, confident children who are successful learners, responsible citizens, and caring members of both their local community and the wider world. We want our children to be outward-facing, curious about the world, and equipped to make a positive difference wherever they go.

Our Goals

Together we:
-
Provide a happy, safe, and welcoming school environment where every child is accepted and has a sense of belonging.
-
Value the mental health and well-being of all children and staff.
-
Create an inclusive culture with high expectations and ambitions for every child.
-
Deliver a broad, knowledge-rich curriculum that equips children to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world and confidently Make a Difference.

We want every child to leave Kiveton Park Meadows feeling confident, unique, and proud, prepared to tackle any challenge they may face.

Why Personal Development Matters

Personal development is central to our ethos. We believe in nurturing well-rounded children who are resilient, empathetic, and capable of making positive choices. Through personal development, children learn essential life skills, including emotional regulation, leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, and responsible decision-making.
We also foster strong links with the wider community, working with local stakeholders such as our MP Jake Richardson and the local Family Hub to provide children with opportunities to engage meaningfully with the world beyond school.
Our Personal Development Curriculum

Our curriculum goes beyond academic learning to actively promote spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development.
Because we consider personal development so important, all children have a daily Personal Development lesson, in addition to learning embedded across the curriculum.

Children also benefit from a wide range enrichment opportunities, including:

-
Partnerships with the Royal Opera House and the National Ballet
-
Specialist French teaching
-
Musical instrument tuition
-
The Voice 21 Oracy project
-
Reading curriculum experiences, library visits, and access to a wide range of books
-
Visits, workshops, and residential trips such as PGL
-
Lunchtime clubs accessible to all children

Supporting Every Learner

Adaptations include:
-
Small group or one-to-one support
-
Visual prompts, scaffolds, and social stories

ELSA – Emotional Literacy Support
We recognise that some children need additional support to manage emotions, build resilience, and develop social skills.
Our trained ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) provides targeted, one-to-one or small group sessions for pupils who may be experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, friendship challenges, or other emotional difficulties. These sessions complement our daily Personal Development lessons and wider pastoral support, ensuring every child has the strategies and confidence to thrive both in school and beyond. ELSA is an integral part of our commitment to supporting every learner, helping them feel understood, safe, and empowered.
Through these approaches, children develop resilience, confidence, and the skills to make positive choices in school, at home, and in the wider world.
