Data and Performance
How do we ensure your child is receiving the very best education possible?

As a new academy school, we have not yet been inspected by Ofsted and MANY changes have occurred since the last inspection in January 2017, which can be viewed here.
We have a robust self-evaluation system in place and constantly strive for excellence.
Our staff are highly motivated in making our school a hub for learning where all children are able to achieve.

Music at Kiveton Park Meadows Junior School
At Kiveton Park Meadows, music is an integral part of our learning journey. We aim to nurture each child’s musical abilities, creativity, and appreciation for music, helping them explore, perform, and compose with confidence.

Our Goals

Through our structured music curriculum, pupils develop skills in composition, singing, performance, and appraisal. We encourage children to make informed musical choices, reflect on their own work and that of others, and work with growing independence. Our approach fosters creativity, self-expression, and a lifelong love of music.

Why Music Matters

Learning music enriches the educational experience and supports personal development. It encourages individuality, creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking. Our curriculum provides children with the opportunity to explore their talents, develop confidence, and appreciate the role of music in culture and society.

Our Music Development Plan
Our Music Development Plan highlights the school’s music offer, successes, and wider opportunities. It demonstrates how pupils experience music throughout their learning journey at Kiveton Park Meadows.

Our Music Curriculum

Music is taught through themed units, skill-building exercises, and creative projects where children can apply their learning. The curriculum covers progression from Year 3 to Year 6, ensuring children build on their knowledge and skills each year.
Children in KS2 have the opportunity to learn an instrument through our partnership with Rotherham Music Service.

How Music is Taught

Lessons combine subject knowledge with composing, performing, listening, and appraising skills. Music learning takes place both inside and outside the classroom, allowing for diverse, engaging experiences.

Who We Learn About

Pupils explore the work of famous composers from history, such as JS Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Rimsky-Korsakov, as well as contemporary composers like Andrew Lloyd-Webber.
Supporting Every Learner

Our music curriculum is inclusive. Adaptations for pupils with SEND or additional needs include accessible instruments (hand drums, shakers, chime bars), sensory activities such as exploring vibrations and sound textures, visual aids, simplified notation, and call-and-response techniques. These ensure all children can fully participate and enjoy music-making.
Pupil Voice

“I love singing in assemblies and learning new songs.”

“Playing the hand drums helps me feel the beat and makes me want to play more.”

“I enjoyed composing my own tune.”

“Learning an instrument is exciting, and I can’t wait to show my family what I’ve learned.”
