PE at Kiveton Park Meadows Junior School

At Kiveton Park Meadows, we aim to inspire a lifelong love of physical activity and well-being through our PE curriculum. We provide children with opportunities to develop physical competence, confidence, and a healthy understanding of movement. Our approach encourages teamwork, perseverance, and a positive attitude toward both individual and group challenges.

Our Goals

At our school, Physical Education (PE) plays a vital role in developing confident, active, and healthy children. Our goal is to inspire every pupil to enjoy movement, build essential physical skills, and understand the importance of lifelong health and wellbeing. We aim to provide a high-quality, engaging, and inclusive PE experience that enables all children to reach their full potential..

Why PE Matters

PE promotes far more than physical fitness. It supports emotional wellbeing, teamwork, resilience, and positive attitudes to challenge and personal growth. Through a broad and balanced programme, children learn to celebrate success, cope with setbacks, and understand the value of leading healthy, active lives. PE is a powerful contributor to whole-child development, helping pupils to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Our PE Curriculum

We follow the Complete PE scheme, providing a structured and progressive curriculum across all year groups. Lessons build fundamental skills across a wide range of sports and activities, including invasion games, gymnastics, dance, outdoor and adventurous activities, and athletics.
Each unit is designed to develop physical competence, tactical understanding, communication, and character skills such as fairness and respect. Our curriculum ensures continuity, progression, and high-quality learning outcomes for all pupils.

Swimming

Swimming is an essential life skill, and we are committed to ensuring that every child can swim confidently and safely. Through high-quality lessons, pupils learn water confidence, essential swimming strokes, and safe self-rescue skills. Progress is carefully tracked to ensure all children have the opportunity to achieve national curriculum expectations in swimming by the end of Key Stage 2.

Engagement in Competitions

We actively encourage pupils to take part in competitive sport, offering opportunities for both participation and excellence. Our school competes in a wide range of local and trust-wide events, including festivals, leagues, and tournaments. Through strong partnerships with Rotherham Titans, Rotherham United, Wales High School, Rotherham School Games Partnership and our Academy Trust, pupils enjoy inspiring experiences that broaden their sporting horizons and nurture sportsmanship, teamwork, and ambition.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

Our extensive extra-curricular programme allows pupils to explore new activities and deepen their passions. Clubs and sports sessions run throughout the year, offering opportunities in team games, athletics, dance, rugby, football, fitness, and more. Many of these are delivered in collaboration with skilled coaches from our local sporting partners, ensuring high-quality provision for all year groups.

How PE is Taught

PE lessons are designed to be active, purposeful, and inclusive. Teachers use the Complete PE scheme to guide clear learning objectives, model skills effectively, and adapt activities to meet pupils’ needs. Lessons promote maximum participation and encourage children to reflect on their performance, learn from others, and set personal goals.
Positive attitudes, effort, and collaboration are celebrated throughout every session.

Supporting Every Learner

We are committed to ensuring that all children can succeed in PE, regardless of their starting point. Lessons are carefully scaffolded and differentiated to provide appropriate challenge and support. Additional adult assistance, adapted equipment, and personalised goals help ensure accessibility for all learners.
We celebrate progress in every form—physical, social, and emotional—ensuring every pupil feels valued, confident, and motivated to stay active.
