Our Goals

Through our French curriculum, pupils develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. We encourage curiosity, cultural awareness, and global understanding, providing children with the tools to communicate effectively in a new language. Learning French also supports transition to Wales High School, ensuring continuity in language learning at KS3.

Why French Matters

Learning a modern foreign language enhances communication skills, confidence, and appreciation of other cultures. Children gain practical language skills, develop global awareness, and broaden their educational experiences. Our curriculum equips pupils with lifelong skills for future learning, travel, and career opportunities.

Our French Curriculum

French is taught through engaging units that combine language learning with cultural exploration. Lessons build progressively, developing confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Pupils also learn about French-speaking countries, traditions, and everyday life, enhancing their understanding of the wider world.

How French is Taught

Lessons are interactive, hands-on, and immersive. Pupils learn through:

  • Role-play and everyday scenarios to practise speaking and listening skills

  • Songs, rhymes, and games to support vocabulary and pronunciation

  • Visual aids and flashcards to reinforce learning

  • Reading and writing activities linked to thematic units

What We Learn

Children explore a wide variety of media, including:

  • Drawing and painting

  • Sculpture and 3D forms

  • Collage and textiles

  • Photography and mixed media

Supporting Every Learner

Adaptations ensure all children, including those with SEND or additional needs, can fully participate. Simplified instructions, visual prompts, multisensory activities, and interactive games make learning French accessible, engaging, and fun.
