Spring Term 2018
This term our new class novel is Goodnight Mister Tom, which I know you will all love reading. This is going to be a great term for reading and sharing books as we launch the Reading Challenge and celebrate World Book Day (1st March 2018). In our science topic we will be learning about parts of the human body (the heart) and other living things. I know you will all be very excited in March when we will have some visitors from the Happy Chick Company. We will be hoping to see some chick hatch and then we will be caring for them and watching them grow. If anybody has a suitable environment to keep hens at home you are welcome to contact school to discuss giving the chicks a permanent home.
Remember to read at home at least five times a week, learn spellings and times tables every night and complete all homework set for you. You can expect homework on the following days:
Monday - Reading Comprehension
Wednesday - Grammar and Spelling
Friday - Mathematics Practise
Autumn Term 2017
Our exciting history topic this term is based on World Wars 1 and 2. During this term we will be learning about: how the wars started; which countries were involved in the wars; how long they lasted; what it was like for people living in those times; why evacuees were brought to Kiveton and what the village was like during the war years.
This work will also tie in nicely with our class novels: Private Peaceful (based on a WW1 soldier), Rose Blanche and Goodnight Mister Tom (stories based on different aspects of World War 2).
After October half term, the children will be visiting the National Holocaust Centre to learn about life in the Second World War and what it was like for the Jewish people living then.
