Spring Term 2017
This term our new class novel is Trash. It is a very different novel to our previous book, Private Peaceful, however, I think you will all enjoy it and find lots to discuss and think about over the coming weeks.
Our new topic for this term is science-based and it is all about living organisms. We are going to be learning about the characteristics of living things, their habitats and food chains and we will also link this to some of our writing such as debating whether animals should be kept in zoos are used to entertain humans. In addition to this, we will be learning about the human body and how to keep healthy.
In maths, we will be continuing to learn about fractions, statistics and geometry as well as doing lots of written arithmetic.
Over the course of this term we will be doing lots of revision work in preparation for your SATs in May. Remember to read at home at least five times a week, learn spellings and times tables and complete all homework set for you.
Autumn Term 2016
Our exciting history topic this term is based on a location we should all know really well... Kiveton.
In this topic we will be learning about: how Kiveton has changed over the years, how it has stayed the same, it's coal mining industry and why the pit was demolished, why evacuees were brought to Kiveton and what the village was like during the war years, and much more.
At the beginning of the term, we will be walking through the village and to Kiveton church, to look at the evidence that remains in the village from the Norman and Saxon times. We will also be visiting the National Coal Mining Museum in Wakefield to enhance and support our work in the classroom, and I'm sure we'll have a fantastic time learning more interesting facts and information about mining and life in Kiveton.
Please remember to ask your family members if they have any documents or photographs from past years in Kiveton, and then (if you are allowed!) bring them in to show the rest of the class. Thank you!
